Restoration and Renewal: Heritage Terrace Upgrades in The Rocks

Tecon Building undertook careful restoration of two neighbouring heritage terraces on Gloucester and Cumberland Streets in Sydney’s historic Rocks precinct. Both residences required a sensitive approach to ensure modern upgrades while retaining their original charm.

The works included localised timber floor repairs to address structural subsidence. Existing floorboards were removed, a new base plate and support post installed, and the original boards re-laid and re-polished to achieve a high quality finish. Complementing this was a complete internal repaint, reviving the interiors while preserving the terrace’s period character.

Other updates included a refreshed paint scheme following strict heritage specifications, alongside remedial works to treat and remove mould within the downstairs bathroom and upper-level bedroom. Floor sanding and polishing unified the home’s interior.

The result—two revitalised homes that balance preservation with practicality, ready to welcome new tenants while maintaining the architectural legacy of Sydney’s oldest streets.
